This was a really fun project to work on, based off of Mike Mignola's comic version of Hellboy, but in Avatar form. This was a bit of an unconventional model, as using standard textures would not have given the crisp lines that I wanted, so basically all details were modeled in and just filled with flat colors. This way I was able to use more geometry at the cost of using a much smaller texture. The Avatar system's "specular" worked more like a reflection, so to keep the constant colors in the system I told polygons to reflect back full intensity colors. This would override any shadowing or lighting from the system and give it a bit of a toon shade feel. His right arm was also much smaller to fit within the confines of the avatar system, but I've scaled it back up here. The model was also approved by Mignola and/or his team, so I was happy with how it turned out.
