I was lucky to work on the new Xbox Avatar version of the Warframe Excalibur. This was an interesting compromise to find out how to best replicate the look of the frame within the new system. Like many other game assets, Digital Extremes uses relatively low geometry models combined with detailed normal maps, but the Avatar shaders do not support normal maps, so I had to model a lot of the major details back in so they would translate in the final product. Fortunately I was able to use their beautiful normal maps to assist in my texturing. Texturing was done almost solely in Substance Designer, with a few maps brought in from Photoshop.
You can get this costume for free on the Xbox Avatar store!
